What you need to know
NHS orthodontic treatment is available for people of all ages. To qualify, you must be registered as an NHS patient with your dentist, who will then refer you for an NHS orthodontic assessment. Please note, a referral does not guarantee treatment—eligibility will be determined during the consultation based on NHS criteria.
Patients must also demonstrate excellent oral hygiene. This means brushing must be of a high standard, with healthy gums and no untreated or recently filled teeth.
What if you don’t qualify for NHS treatment?
Due to NHS restrictions, some people may not be eligible for free treatment if their dental condition isn’t considered severe enough under the IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need), as outlined by the Scottish Government.
If you are assessed as ineligible, we also provide a range of Private Orthodontic Treatments tailored to your needs.
