My name is Diane Allan
I qualified as a Dental Hygienist and Therapist from the Edinburgh Dental Institute in 2010, and have been working in mixed NHS and Private practices since.
Prior to this I worked in different Science and Health based positions for 7 years after completing my honours degree in Biological and Health Sciences. Health promotion and disease prevention always interested me and I discovered that life at a desk or a lab bench wasn’t for me – I wanted to be working with people! So I went back to studying (again!) to complete my diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy.
I love my role in helping people understand their own mouth and how to look after it themselves at home- Prevention is always the best cure! And of course I’m here to help treat conditions that are already present.
I strongly believe we don’t just treat teeth/gums – we treat the person at the other end of them too – so I find this way of thinking really helps me to build trust and success in working with particularly nervous patients.
I am married with one child (a girl), and myself and my husband teach the Martial Art Tae Kwon-Do twice a week (which I’ve been doing for over 20 years now) . So I don’t always have a lot of spare time over and above that, but I do enjoy and try to fit in some yoga and walking too where I can.
It’s great to be on the team here at Iriston House and I look forward to seeing you in the future!
